Game Plan, by Karla Doyle

Recently divorced after seventeen years with a snooty, uptight, controlling man, forty-year-old Andie is definitely ready for some casual, sexy fun when a hot younger man "accidentally" hits her with a baseball. Mason's interest is clear and he looks like a lot more fun than her overworked vibrator collection, so she goes for it, despite the obvious age gap. The young veterinarian is as easy to be with as he is on the eyes, making him an ideal summer diversion and the perfect man to help her make up for lost time and missed orgasms.

Mason had to meet the sexy woman at the ball diamond. The chemistry between them is instant and completely addictive. Andie is more than beautiful, she's uninhibited and independent--totally unlike the needy twenty-somethings he's been dating since his ex-fiancée deceived him five years ago. And yeah, Andie is ten years older than him, big deal. The more they're together, the more his heart wants her as badly as his cock. Too bad Andie isn't playing for keeps.

Great dialog, great sex scenes
By Cara Bristol
Having written a cougar romance, I was eager to read another author's take on the subgenre. Karla Doyle knocked it out of the ballpark in Game Plan, her debut novel.

Andie meets Mason when he hits her with a baseball so he'll have an excuse to introduce himself. A mom with responsibilities who's just freed herself from a bad marriage, Andie is more than willing to engage in a romp between the sheets, but forever-after isn't part of her new game plan - especially not with a man ten years younger. Mason, however, has other ideas.

Game Plan has a nice story line, witty dialog and hot, realistic sex scenes. I enjoyed the humor, which frequently made me laugh out loud. Karla Doyle writes well and with a light touch, making this story a pleasure to read. It's five stars all around, but the exceptional dialog and smooth sex scenes especially stand out.

Excellent!!
By Anita L McFarlane
It is rare to find an author who is capable of telling a well developed story and weave in the hot, erotic sexy bits. Karly Doyle does it well. This is the story of the relationship between Andie, a forty year old divorcee and Mason, a younger man, a veteranarian. Even the secondary characters are well defined. A great read. I am now stalking Ms. Doyle and looking for all her other work. She's my new favorite author!!

A very pleasant surprise
By Amazon Customer
I really wasn't sure what to expect as EC seems all over. This is in the "sophisticate" category, which I think means the older crowd? Anyway, the cougar trope isn't really my favorite so I put it off. Man, imagine my surprise when near the beginning it turns scooorching hot. I hope my 40's go something like this because it was hotter than a lot of 20-something erotic romance I read. Nice hot sex and lots of it, which just enough emotion and personality to keep it all interesting. It's actually quite long, but never lets up the hotness. Just when I thought that's all there was (and I wasn't going to complain, mind you) I got some lovely angst at the end. Well rounded, well written and really hot, Game Plan is a prime specimen of contemporary erotic romance.

Botvinnik - Petrosian: 1963 World Chess Championship Match, by Mikhail Botvinnik

World Chess Champion Mikhail Botvinnik writes the story of the 1963 match in which he lost his title to fellow Russian Tigran Petrosian. Botvinnik, one of the greatest chess players of all time, analyses the games, reveals his match strategy and comments on the strategic choices of his opponent. Botvinnik?s revealing essay: ?Why In lost the match? is counterbalanced by Petrosian?s analysis of his win, which is also included in this important historical document. A fascinating and highly instructive report.

Multiple Annotators Make this Collection Enjoyable
By RTF
I am a 2300 rated player and purchased this book on Botvinnik's final World Championship (WC) clash after realizing that I was less familiar with the games of this match than any other WC match. I cannot overstate the historical significance of this short collection.

A major strength of this collection is the variety of annotators. Games are naturally annotated not only by Botvinnik and Petrosian, but also by legendary players like Kasparov, Kortchnoi, and other strong GM's like Vladimir Akopian. While the games of this match were overwhelmingly positional struggles, it is quite interesting to see how these champions describe similar positions that arose in the match.

The final section of the book really makes it stellar. There is a section where Petrosian discusses his views on Botvinnik's previous WC matches. We are also treated to a selection of previous Botvinnik-Petrosian games as well as eight training games Botvinnik played before the match. The book concludes with snippets from Botvinnik's famous 'secret notebook'.

Though only around 140 pages, the book contains many interesting highlights and is a must have for a chess collector.

I would prefer more comments by Botvinnik or Petrosian
By Claudio Rivera
I like the book completely, but only half of the games are commented by Botvinnik or Petrosian. Both masters offer insights of the playing circumstances that no one could note. Both, express moves decisions that defines the outcome of the game with verbal comments, short variations, based on their inner conception of the game, their personal theory of chess. That's what I like in the old masters comments. They don't pretend that you know, or is totally clear, why this move wins strategically, but explain them with pure chess principles. Also they made clear that in analysis, it's not the longest variable which contains the truth. They don't pretend to "solve the chess" in a comment with 20 moves of variations, seeking what it's call the "truth". If the position is equal, any equivalent course will result in an equal situation and 10 concrete moves will not change that. And only if you can trace the route to win or to obtain great advantage, you can claim that it's a winning position. Any other circumstance will derive in a draw. I recommend the book. This match end the Bovinnik era. A great era in history of chess.

Preface to Third Edition

This revision is derived from personal experiences in teaching introductory and advanced level nuclear engineering courses at the undergraduate level. In keeping with the original intent of John Lamarsh, every attempt is made to retain his style and approach to nuclear engineering education. Since the last edition, however, considerable changes have occurred in the industry. The changes include the development of advanced plant designs, the significant scale-back in plant construction, the extensive use of high speed computers, and the opening of the former Eastern Block countries and of the Soviet Union. From a pedagogical view, the World Wide Web allows access to many resources formerly only available in libraries. Attempts are made to include some of these resources in this edition.

In an attempt to update the text to include these technologies and to make the text useful for the study of non-western design reactors, extensive changes are made to Chapter 4, Nuclear Reactors and Nuclear Power. The chapter is revised to include a discussion of Soviet-design reactors and technology. The use, projection, and cost of nuclear power worldwide is updated to the latest available information.

In Chapter 11, Reactor Licensing and Safety, the Chernobyl accident is discussed along with the latest reactor safety study, NURG 1150. A section is also included that describes non-power nuclear accidents such, as Tokai-Mura.

The basic material in Chapters 2-7 is updated to include newer references and to reflect the author's experience in teaching nuclear engineering.

Throughout the text, the references are updated were possible to include more recent publications. In many topic areas, references to books that are dated and often out of print had to be retained, since there are no newer ones available. Since these books are usually available in college libraries, they should be available to most readers.

Chapter 9 is retained in much its same form but is updated to include a more complete discussion of the SI system of units and of changes in philosophy that have occurred in radiation protection. Since many of these changes have yet to reach general usage, however, the older discussions are still included.

As in the second edition, several errors were corrected and undoubtedly new ones introduced. Gremlins never sleep!

Student Opinion of this Text
By MF
As a textbook for teaching the fundamentals of nuclear engineering, the Lamarsh-Baratta text is horrible. It is riven with errors in the text and examples (and we are using the 3rd edition), the questions are infuriatingly vague at times and in general it does a poor job of explaining an admittedly difficult subject.

Regarding the large numbers of typos, I and my classmates had to search the web for an errata sheet and even then we continue to find errors such as formulae written incorrectly and wrong values for constants.

As for being vague, this text makes you assume many things. A favorite example is a problem early in the text where we not only have to assume neutron energies, we also had to assume fuel type. Then we have to assume energy released per fission and somehow come up with an answer we can be confident in. Ridiculous.

The examples are hit and miss - occasionally they are helpful, an omission I am sure that will be corrected in the 4th edition.

We find ourselves relying on outside texts and materials much of the time to supplement this poorly written textbook.

EDIT ADDED TWO YEARS LATER - Now with perspective from the job world...

After graduating and entering the work force, I mostly stand by the above. I will admit that I do have my copy still with me. It does provide the occasional useful overview of a wide breadth of topics.

I must once again point out the many errata. I still regard it as inexcusable even though I know mistakes do happen - but this is the 3rd edition.

Another thing that would be enormously useful would be if the next edition included units. When teaching this subject, watching how units cancel out or are used can be very, very helpful to undergrad students.

Many students will be forced to use this. I would suggest keeping it on your bookshelf, but if you are supposed to use this in your class, I strongly recommend Nuclear Reactor Engineering by Glasstone and Sesonske as a supplement. The third edition of the Glasstone book can still be found for a reasonable price if you can't afford the most recent edition.

Contains Excellent Information And Several Distractions
By Robert I. Hedges
First, the caveat to my review: I am probably unique among the reviewers of this book in that I am not a nuclear engineer. I have a strong educational and professional background in chemistry, physics, and math, and have been working on projects involving engineered safety systems and risk management in other technologically advanced industries. I have recently become involved in talks with representatives from the nuclear industry. For my own preparation I undertook the long hard slog through the Lamarsh-Baratta book, "Introduction to Nuclear Engineering" (Third Edition) to help me grasp background information and concepts in this field. Although I was sometimes initially unclear about the use of units (barns, dollars, etc.) and nomenclature (meat, safe shutdown earthquake, etc.) I generally found the text to eventually explain them adequately. One critique is that at some points in the text the authors use terminology freely without first defining it, only to define it much later. I found this and the relatively large number of typographical errors to be distracting.

This is clearly a very complex subject, and would no doubt be helped by good classroom instruction. Nonetheless, I still found considerable value in the book. I liked chapter seven, "The Time-Dependent Reactor" particularly well, and especially found sections 7.3 and 7.5 "Control Rods and Chemical Shim" and "Fission Product Poisoning" to be enlightening. I found the commentary on reactor stability and the explanation of post-shutdown Xenon-135 buildup and reactor deadtime extremely helpful. I also found section 7.6 on incore fuel management useful.

From my experience in aviation (where it is a common parameter), I enjoyed the discussion of the utility of the Reynolds number in section 8.4, and found the ensuing discussions of turbulent flow, liquid metals, and boiling heat transfer to be fascinating. My safety systems background is primarily in aviation, where it is stressed that every design is a compromise: I was pleased to see the same acknowledged on p. 455 by Bill Minkler (who now writes the "Backscatter" commentary for "Nuclear News") with his quote that reactor design is "the art of compromise."

I was pleased with chapters nine ("Radiation Protection") and eleven ("Reactor Licensing, Safety, and the Environment"), which are the most directly applicable to me. The concept of "Relative Biological Effectiveness" is well covered beginning on p. 472, and the discussions of radiation protection are helpful. I found the section dealing with deterministic versus stochastic effects of radiation on pp. 479-480 to be helpful, and thought the glossary of radiation protection on pp. 539-542 to be a valuable reference. I wanted to better understand the principles of Monte Carlo analysis, which is covered in chapter ten, and while much of the discussion was helpful, it was a bit more general than I had expected.

The overview of reactor licensing in chapter eleven is quite helpful, although becoming a bit dated. The discussion of multiple barriers to prevent to escape of radiation begins on p. 623 and provides an excellent general overview to the safety systems involved at a reactor site. Section 11.4 ("Dispersion of Effluents") was excellent overall, with plume formation and diffusion of effluents well covered for all Pasquill conditions (except G). This was an area new to me, as I have minimal meteorological knowledge, and I found the qualitative explanations and illustrations to be excellent, although the mathematical reasoning was at some points a bit hard to follow.

The discussion of Design Basis Accidents (and particularly LOCA scenarios) beginning on p. 681 is excellent, as is the recap of the Three Mile Island and Chernobyl accidents which follow. I was pleased to see the introduction to risk management beginning on p. 711, which discusses 10CFR50.34a requiring operators to keep radioactive materials in effluents "as low as reasonably achievable." Oddly, the book the fails to name the acronym that logically follows from this (ALARA, of course) or discuss its use in the contemporary nuclear community to any significant degree.

There is a lot of great content here, and while I am sure that I missed some of the more intricate mathematical nuances of the book, I think it was helpful to me overall. The book is sometimes a bit unclear, and some of the mathematical reasoning seems a bit fuzzy. A bigger complaint is that each chapter has numerous problems at the end, yet there is no answer key to determine if you did the problem correctly.

I don't claim to have as much experience in the field as the vast majority of people who will read and review this book, but I do believe that overall the book, while not perfect, gives a good introduction to the subject, and will serve as a valuable reference in the future.

Not as bad as some claim, but not as good either
By Arthur K. Heller
I have used this book effectively for the past three years of my Nuclear Engineering Graduate degree and have a fond place for it in my heart. Admittedly there are better texts out there and the book has many typos and errors, but the advantage it has is the text is written so straight forward and plainly that most, if not all of the errors, can be found readily by the reader.

Overall, I recommend this book to someone who is new to the nuclear engineering field and is uncertain where to start with his or her study of the subject. Once the foundation has been laid by the material presented in this text the reader is ready to pursue other books, which may be more accurate, but not nearly as clear in their presentation of concepts. (such as Duderstadt and Hamilton.)

[The authors] provide a functional discussion of multiple topics related to interviewing in their book...However, [they] present more than just a useful discussion of how to design, conduct, and analyze interviews. They simultaneously introduce the importance of philosophical approaches and ethics in relation to the topics discussed, making connections between the important notions and the qualitative research process they describe. Their practical approach to the topics presented makes their book a wonderful resource for novice researchers

An Introduction to Ultra Wideband Communication Systems, by Jeffrey H. Reed

Introduction to Ultra Wide Band Communication Systems offers acomprehensive view of UWB system design, that spans propagation, antennas, receive and transmitter implementations, standards and regulations, interference issues, simulation techniques, modulation and multiple access, network issues, and applications. This book encompasses all areas of designand implementation of UWB systems crucial to their successful testing anddeployment.UWB offers unique capabilities, such as extremely high data rates, and buildingpartitions and ground penetrating transmission. The FCC acknowledged thebenefits of UWB when, in 2001, regulations were modified to allow thetransmission of UWB signals. The standardization effort has recently come tofruition with the creation of a new, regulated communication standard. However, a new standard brings along with it new regulations and equipment;and the design of UWB systems is very different than traditionalcommunication systems. The current general reference books for design ofcommunication systems are insufficient, and in some cases could be misleadingto a UWB designer. Furthermore, there is a tremendous need to unify thediverse concepts and fields of study embedded in the design of UWB systems.

From the Back Cover

The definitive, end-to-end guide to high-performance UWB system design

With the FCC's approval of new ultra wideband standards, UWB is poised to drive breakthroughs in both commercial and military communications. However, UWB system design is radically different from conventional communications system design, and traditional design guides are insufficient—or even misleading. Now, for the first time, there's an authoritative and comprehensive guide to the latest best practices in UWB system design.

Authored by leading-edge experts and researchers, Introduction to Ultra Wideband Communication Systems systematically addresses every major issue engineers will face in designing, implementing, testing, and deploying successful systems. The authors cover propagation, antennas, receiver and transmitter implementation, standards and regulations, interference, simulation, modulation and multiple access, networking, applications, and more.

Topics include

  • UWB fundamentals: technology, system components, standards/regulations, and the controversies surrounding UWB

  • Never-before-published techniques for addressing propagation, modeling, and channel simulation

  • UWB antenna design—including surprising differences between UWB and narrowband systems

  • Effective transmitter design reflecting UWB's modulation principles

  • Receiver design for impulse UWB systems—including key differences from conventional carrier-based systems

  • In-depth coverage of interference, focusing on "peaceful coexistence" between UWB and narrowband radio systems

  • Practical simulation techniques that avoid unacceptably long simulation times

  • How UWB's physical layer capabilities impact the performance and design of upper layers

  • Real-world UWB applications and case studies of existing systems

This book is the definitive resource for every professional involved with UWB: RF engineers concerned with UWB's impact on radio design; experienced computer and DSP engineers moving into radio communications; systems engineers who must master UWB radio link design; and technical managers who must clearly understand the challenges they'll face in delivering successful systems.

PrefacePreface

To a great extent, this book was inspired by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency project called NETEX. The program manager, Stephen Griggs, recognized that far too little information about Ultra Wideband (UWB), particularly pulse-based UWB systems, appeared in the literature. Moreover, he believed that the UWB information available in the public domain is sometimes incorrect and misleading, particularly regarding interference issues with UWB. Thus, the program participants were encouraged to widely disseminate the results of the NETEX program to help clarify many of these outstanding issues. Much of the information presented in this book is a direct result of this program and other UWB research programs from Virginia Tech and the Army Research Lab.

UWB activity has picked up immensely since the Federal Communication Commission's 2002 decision to allow for the transmission of UWB and the subsequent standardization efforts with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Some see UWB as an enabling technology for new wireless applications that span from high-data-rate transmission of raw multimedia video to new location-aware, low-data-rate, and low-power communication of sensor data. Non-communication applications, such as through-the-wall imaging and ground-penetrating radar, also capture the imagination of researchers and entrepreneurs.

The controversy surrounding the standardization efforts illustrates the many debatable issues of UWB. From an academic perspective, many fundamental research issues remain unresolved, including the best modulation types for particular applications, efficient broadband antennas with a desirable form factor, propagation characteristics of UWB in various environments, the impact of UWB physical layer attributes on the networking layers, and the list continues. UWB will certainly be the subject of many theses and dissertations to come.

This book provides a broad technical view of UWB. Chapters 2 and 3 deal with simulation of propagation issues, modeling, and channel simulation, and much of this information is presented in the public domain for the first time. Chapter 4 focuses on antennas and outlines some surprising differences in antenna performance with respect to narrowband systems. Chapter 5 examines transmitter design issues and covers some of the basic modulation principles of UWB. Chapter 6 presents an overview of receiver design issues and explains how impulse UWB systems are particularly different from conventional carrier-based systems. Chapter 7 addresses the controversial interference issues of UWB; unlike traditional communications, UWB may intentionally transmit co-channel with other communication signals. Chapter 8 examines how to simulate UWB systems; such simulation requires more finesse because broadband signals encounter excessive simulation time if structured incorrectly. Chapter 9 describes how the physical layer capabilities of UWB impact the performance and design of upper layers. Finally, applications and case studies of existing UWB systems are addressed in Chapter 10.

We hope readers will find this book of interest and will check the web site (www.mprg.org/publications/Reed/UWBbook.shtml) for additional information about UWB and this book.

A Decent Industry Overview Marred by Incomprehensibly Bad Writing
By Just Some Guy
This book is a useful high-level overview of the digital advertising/marketing space. It offers good insights into certain job functions within that ecosystem, most specifically media planners, media buyers, and ad traffickers. It also offers a good general overview of the core ad types and the core feature set offered by the most popular ad servers. To that end it has proven to be a good purchase for me overall, as I am a creative developer who was hoping to gain a broader understanding of the whole digital advertising ecosystem.

Unfortunately I have 2 major gripes about the book: 1) It's completely useless on a technical level. Don't buy it expecting to gain anything but the most surface level of understanding for how any of the actual gears of the online ad world fit together. This is in no way a technically informative book. 2) This is without a doubt the most difficult book to read I have ever encountered, owing to an overwhelming abundance of grammatical errors, typos, incomplete sentences, and just plain bad writing across the board. Every single page of the book seems to have AT LEAST 2 blatant errors that should have been flagged by an editor. I'm not even a very good writer, and I felt that I found something that was just plain wrong, from a writing perspective, in almost every single paragraph. Overall the writing measures up to perhaps a 10th grade student's level, and I must admit that I was frequently left scratching my head wondering if the author learned English as a second language (and not well learned). It's that bad.

Final word – as a high level overview of the digital ad space, I'd give it 4 stars. As a technical book, which its title implies it is, I give it 1. The writing, well, that deserves maybe .25. So overall I give it a generous 2 star rating. There is value in this book, as long as you can stomach the atrocious writing and editing and parse the value after trudging through that minefield.

Self-publishing is not an excuse for really bad English
By C. S.
The book provides an interesting but shallow overview of the industry. But the English is SO BAD and with so many mistakes that is difficult at times to follow the ideas. While the author might have experience in the tech side, it is obvious that never worked for an agency or as a marketer. The Marketer perspective is nothing but stereotypes of the profession.
My recommendation to the author - get a real editor. While there might be value in the ideas presented, the language and presentation totally diminish it.
Huge disappointment

I think the book is valuable specially for non-heavy technical people who want to enter the Ad-Tech & need to get a better under
By Kazem
I have been in Ad-Tech space for the last four years specializing designing programmatic Ad Buying algorithms for AdTech companies powered by machine learning & big data analysis. This book has been suggested to me by a colleague. I've found values in the book specially the efforts the author put together to cover the Ad-Tech spectrum from the Publishers end to the Advertisers end. I think the book is valuable specially for non-heavy technical people who want to enter the Ad-Tech & need to get a better understanding of the space such as who the players are and how different tech pieces work together to deliver the ad serving services.

Due to my heavy tech background, I would rather to see deeper technical materials & discussions in the book. But, that's only my personal preference and probably doesn't reflect the audience set that the author has been targeting in this book.

Spies in the Garden: A Novel of War and Espionage, by Bob Bergin

Set in Burma and China in the early days of World War II, "Spies in the Garden" follows the Japanese invasion of Burma and the disasters that befall the British Army. The single bright spot is the American Volunteer Group (AVG) "Flying Tigers," as they join in the defense of Rangoon. These events are the backdrop to the main story, the beginning of the American espionage effort in Asia that becomes known as the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner to the CIA.

Young journalist Harry Ross is sent to Rangoon by "Wild Bill" Donovan, President Roosevelt's "Coordinator of Information." Ross's mission is to set up an espionage network to spy on the Japanese. His brief includes monitoring America's first covert action operation, the Flying Tigers.

AVG Commander Claire Lee Chennault and his pilots are among the characters through whom events are experienced. When Rangoon falls, the action moves with the AVG to China, and the focus to intelligence operations against the Japanese invaders and our Chinese allies.

The story tracks actual events and real characters - based on the author's extensive research and his interviews with personalities who participate in many of the events described here.

Review
"... this is the story of young journalist, Harry Ross, sent as General Donovan's emissary to Rangoon.  It is detailed and authentic when it comes to the OSS in Burma, China (particularly Chungking and Kunming), and Thailand.  Bergin... has packed his novel treasure with historical characters and data. Recognizable names and scenarios are skillfully integrated into a believable tale, portions of which are undoubtedly fiction-laced, but all wildly decorated with a delicious icing of espionage, aviation, romance, antiques and art."      - - The OSS Society Journal

Bob Bergin's Flying Giger Novel
By Lewis M. Stern
I have the benefit of a friendship with the author that enabled me to hear these stories directly from many of his distinguished AVG friends. They were all charming gentlemen, highly articulate, vivid in their recollections and poignant in their speech. They told as good a tale as Bob Bergin tells in this book, which itself is a great story that captures much of the history and a good deal of the personalities of the key players involved - the characterizations of Ed Rector, Chennault, Chou En-Lai are particularly sharply drawn in my view.

What I thought the book captured with great skill was the vacuum created by a war situation, a war at the outset before too many dishes have been broken, before the true dimensions of the conflict, and the real zeal of the contestants, has been revealed. Bob writes in a way that conveyed the sense of a brewing conflict at the point when people are still adjusting to political realities acted out in capital cities, and new forces are positioning themselves for advantage on the fields that will be the center of the coming contest.

Commerce was still possible, though new "rules" were being negotiated and alternatives to the normal course of business were being worked out. Relationships across borders were fluid, and old grudges/lingering historic animosities were bubbling to the surface.

Bob also accurately renders the somewhat confused situation confronting those in the business of intelligence collection in such a context, and does a very nice job depicting the murky context in which the newly built OSS had to function upon establishment. Targets had not yet emerged with clarity. National level priorities were broad, and vague, and provided only the sketchiest guidance to people on the ground. Opportunities led down many paths, and a good number of dead ends loomed large. Hours and hours spent in tedium punctuated by moments of terror.

Great story. Nice fit with the earlier volumes that dealt with more contemporary situations.

Meet the Flying Tigers
By Jimmie A. Kepler
"Spies In The Garden: A Novel of War and Espionage" by Bob Bergin takes place during the Japanese invasion of Burma and China. The book centers on the actions of the Flying Tigers (the American Volunteer Group). The book provides a good history of the Flying Tigers wrapped around the story.

The author knows the history of the Flying Tigers. I enjoyed his description of the pilots and their actions. The story begins in November 1941. The fictional hero, Harry Ross, is an American spy working undercover as a writer. He witnesses their early training. The training has with disaster after disaster. The Flying Tigers improve as the story advances into a force feared by the Japanese. Bob Bergin leaves no doubt that he views their performance as far better to the British Royal Air Force.

The narrative commences in Rangoon. Here Ross makes contact with the Flying Tigers. Ross also meets father and daughter Louie and Lucy. Louie is a trader. He supplied lavishness goods to the Chinese Nationalist leaders. Daughter Lucy is stylish and classy as well as beautiful. She and Harry become platonic friends.

Bergin tells a good story. Harry always seems to get out of the jams he encounters. His relationships with Sue and then Tai Li provide information for his work. He receives a Shanghai girl as a reward from Tai Li. She is in bed with the enemy and provides her pillow talk with the Japanese officers to Harry. This endures Harry with his superiors.

By July 1942, the Flying Tigers are winding down. Chennault becomes a Brigadier General. He finds himself working under General Joe Stilwell. We experience the differences between them. We also encounter the differences between the different arms of the Intelligence Services.

Harry does not seem to comprehend all that is happening and its consequences. Ross' controller Doyle steers him and cautions him about getting caught up with politics.

We are left to contemplate what happens next as the book concludes with the end of the Flying Tigers in July 1942.

There is a final two-page wrap up at the end of the book - "What Became of Them?" It gives a brief winding up of the unanswered questions.

Bob Bergin knows the Flying Tigers. He tells a good story from an American point of view. If you like war, espionage, seduction, and intrigue this book is for you. Moreover, do not be surprised if you learn about the Flying Tigers along the way. I recommend buying the book. Mr. Bergin gives a good story and history of the Flying Tigers for your financial investment.

First mission accomplished. So what next?
By Mitchel
I'm giving this 4 stars because it actually made dust off the R3 I got as a gift 3 years ago and give it a chance simply because I had nothing to do and the book looked promising. I am not giving it 5 stars because there is only one tutorial which covers how to make a program to make an LCD light up. Wish there were more tutorials. The rest of the book is for the uninitiated newbies. I've had my time with it but I just couldn't find some solid uses. Now that I learned a few things though, I'm willing to give the board another chance.
